
In the county that hosted England’s most famous battle, history is always close at hand. Visit Battle Abbey and turn back the clock to 1066 for the Battle of Hastings experience. See the mosaics of Fishbourne Palace, a legacy of both the Romans and Normans, and a string of spectacular castles including Lewes, Hastings, Bodiam and Arundel, with its spooky Ghost Experience.
Sussex is spanned by the beautiful South Downs and the South Downs Way is great for walking and cycling. You can also explore Iron Age forts at Chanctonbury Ring and Cissbury Ring on The Downs.
The towns of Midhurst and Steyning have an incredible mix of medieval cottages, Tudor houses and Georgian coaching inns, and taking a steam train along the Bluebell Railway is a relaxing way to enjoy the beautiful Sussex countryside.
If you want a bit of seaside fun there’s more than 80km if coastline, taking in Brighton, Chichester Bay, the golden sands of Camber, and the spectacular cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head. And for theme-park fun, Harbour Park is just outside Littlehampton.
